After signing a lease for an apt, do you receive the keys?

My boyfriend is signing his lease on monday with his roommate and we were wondering if they’ll be able to get the keys immediately after?, more

and Can a 12 month tenancy be changed to a 6 month tenancy?  My partner and I are 3 months into a 12 month tenancy agreement, but have just discovered that I’m pregnant. The place we’ve got at the moment is not going to be big enough for us and a baby so need to move somewhere bigger.
The baby is due just before the lease ends, but obviously we don’t want the hassle of moving with a newborn, and we want to get the new place ready for when the baby arrives.
So is the anyway that we can ask it to be changed?!, more

and what is the going rate for a contractor in Northern California?  I live in the Chico, California area and would like to know how much should I expect a contactor to charge per square foot on a newly constructed house. Thanks!, more

Buyer remorse after putting deposit on my first rental house?  I’m a 19 year old college student. Me and my friend just put down a deposit on a house we are going to rent. Its a perfect location and we both really liked the place, it all seemed really good on paper. Now that we have it locked in we are both feeling a little iffy about the whole thing. The rent isn’t back (675 split between us) but its the things added on top of that, that makes the whole thing seem daunting.
Is this pretty normal? Should we take this feeling as a sign we shouldn’t follow through with it? Advice?
I’m thinking I’m going to spend about $10 a day on food so 240 a month plus utilities, internet, gas (about a tank a month), car insurance and cell phone bill. Just seems very daunting but I know this is the real world. If we walk away we would both lose $100 so its not a big deal.
This is a very nice place, probably under valued. We could probably find something (not nearly as nice) that MIGHT be $100 cheaper a month but that really doesn’t make much of a difference.
the other option would be not to move out and live at home., more

and first time home buyers credit?  could I have efiled that? I amended last years taxes to do it…I thought I had to send it snail mail…, more
