I am moving to Burbank and I wanted to know if anyone had an opinion on the apts called Avalon at Media Center, more
and FSBO purchasing: any tips on negotiating an offer. They are asking 90k..we want to START w/ an offer of 65k? Is this too low? We definitely want to stay under 75k. There are some things about the house that we’d like to change (outdated kitchen, add a bathtub to bathroom, finish the basement). Overall, this house is IDEAL in every other way for us.
Also any tips on selling our current home? We’d like to get at least 50k. So, we think asking 60k to start with will peek a lot of interest. Thank You!
BTW, this home has been in the seller’s family for over 40 yrs, so there is no mortgage. The lady living in it has been moved into the local nursing home & her niece is trying to get it sold by December., more
and Getting another realtor …? I had a realtor that was a client of mine at one point. When she became my realtor, she really educated me on the homebuying process. I really appreciate her education and wanted to stick with her at first. She really taught me an awful lot and she did show me a number of houses (probably about 12 in total).
However, there were a number of things that didn’t work for me. First, she had some very serious emergency family issues – so she wasn’t available when I needed her. I understand family issues – no one can avoid things like that. But, there were several times when we would be out looking for houses and she would have to cut the trip short because she needed to go home immediately. Again, I understand that – but the problem is I don’t have so much time to look – and because my lease is up in two months – I need to find something soon.
I did feel that she took advantage of me a bit. I’m easy-going by nature – but not a doormat! There were certain places that she didn’t really want to go to – she’d be very lukewarm about taking me to those places (because they were a bit farther out – maybe by 20 minutes or so). There were times when I’d drive her to houses that I wanted to see. In fact, half of the time, I did the driving – which made me uncomfortable since I didn’t have GPS. (We’ve been lost more than once). I did some of the faxing (and subsequently paid to fax materials) out of my own pocket – which I didn’t think was standard – although I could be wrong. It is a little thing, but coupled with everything else, I felt she was taking advantage of the relationship we had started to build. She also didn’t really recommend much – even when I asked her to. I felt like I always had to look for things myself – which I don’t mind doing – but I needed more options – that is part of the reason I hired a realtor in the first place.
It got to the point where I didn’t want to bother her with my requests because I knew that she had a lot on her plate. Also, I felt that she took advantage of the relationship that we had prior to me using her as a realtor.
So, I decided to get another realtor. A friend recommended someone to me and I’m trying them out on this upcoming week. I told the original realtor that I was going to take a break from looking at houses for a while – because originally that was what I was going to do. But after I thought about it a while, I prefer to look for something rather than trying to find a place to rent when my lease is up.
So finally my question. How do you go about letting a realtor know that you are going with someone else – particularly when they are in the middle of a very rough situation? I want to be sensitive, but also at the same time, I want to be up front and honest. Appreciate any advice that you have!
Thanks for your responses. Yes, I definitely won’t be as wordy when I speak to her – but I was wordy here because I needed to explain the situation fully.
starlight – thanks for your advice. No, I didn’t sign anything with her – and wouldn’t with anyone because I am the buyer and not the seller. Good advice.
Thanks to both of you!, more
