What are renter's rights when there is a discrepency about rent in the lease?

Posted by on Jul 01 | Real Estate Investing Chatter

I rent in MA. Before moving in I gave a secuity deposit one month’s rent and key deposit. After I moved in, I noticed on my lease that in one place it says my rent is $1352 and on the security/rent receipt it says rent is $1252. So for the next month’s rent I paid the $1252, but the management people say I owe the difference and they made a mistake and my rent is really $1352. If there is a discrepency like this, shouldn’t the rent be in favor of the renter? I as well as the management co. both signed the lease with the discrepency., more

and Safe place to live in Charlotte, NC?  My husband and I will be moving to Charlotte in a couple of months and will soon be looking for a rental home. We want something that’s less than a 25 minute commute from Uptown. A friend that lives in the area has suggested that the North and West sides are the safest. Would you agree or have any other suggestions?, more

and Rental Issue with my current apartment?  I have been renting this apartment since February 2009. When I moved in I was bringing home 1100-1200 monthly net pay, so there was no problem paying 850.00 a month rent. Well, effective June 1st of this year my job (daycare teacher) cut back on my hours and my pay rate!! I am not even making 9.00 hour now and I went from 40 hrs a week to only 30-32 hours a week!! My question is I cannot afford to pay 850.00 a month rent due to the cuts in my employment. I do not want to get evicted because I need a place to stay.I am a single mother of two. Do you think that the landlord can something out with me as far as paying the rent? Right now, I can only pay about 600.00-650.00. Is that still grounds for eviction?, more

If I can't get a mortgage, is it better to borrow the cash from my mom, or have her buy it in her name?  I am between jobs right now and need to buy a condo. My mother has the cash on hand to purchase it for us. Our plan is to get a normal mortgage once I have a job and then pay my mom back. My question is this:
Should my mother buy the house in her name and then we purchase it from her when I am eligible for a mortgage?
Or should she loan me the money and then we re-finance later to pay her back?
Which way would be cheaper/easier/simpler in the long run in terms of fees, appraisals, tax obligations, etc.?
Thanks, more

and how come car rental places won't accept atm debit cards so you can rent a car?  i was on vacation and had over $4000.00 in my checking account. i use my card around the world and it works., more
