We bought a block of subdivided land and the builder just commenced site work a week ago. The builder noticed that our neighbour’s garage has actually been built 150mm in our land. Of course I don’t want to build my house 150mm narrower as all the drawings have to be amended and the project will be further delayed. The builder said we could shave the neighbour’s wall by 150mm if the owner agrees and it should be at his cost. I am really worried what if he doesn’t agree or he just simply says he doesn’t have any money. LEGALLY, does he have to remove his property out of my land? I also wonder why the surveyor didn’t pick it up at the first place. It is a subdivided land, land has been surveyed before it been put on the market., more

and How do I break/cancel an apartment lease 1 month early with minimal fees? I moved into my boyfriend and his step-brother’s apartment back in December of 2008 and our lease ends next month (August 15, 2009), but I was wondering if there is a way to break the lease early without paying the full fee?
Back in February or March, we asked management how much it would cost to cancel the lease and they said it would cost $900 to break it. However, I was wondering if there was a 30-day exception or anything to help in our favor.
The reason we want to move is because our room mate (his step-brother) has lost/got fired/quit his last 3-4 jobs within the 8 months that I’ve been around and each time it puts us in debt a bit because we have to pay bills late and such. Because it’s so close to our move-out date, we want to avoid the $900 cancellation fee if possible because all the money we’ve saved up is for our new place (which will be in the same complex, but a 1br instead of a 2br).
- They put $1050 down for deposit when they moved in.
Do you think if we asked to cancel early and offered to pay Augusts’ rent (for both the 1br and 2br), they would be willing to let us break it? We’re just trying to eliminate that huge $900 fee, if possible.
I’ve read other answers to questions like this, but was hoping to get a more direct response because our story is different. Any help/advice would be great. Thanks., more
Is it safe to rent a shared room with strangers from craigslist? I’ve been looking at a lot of shared rooms advertised on craigslist, because it’s difficult to find a private bedroom around here for under $500 a month. Most of the shared rooms I’ve looked at are cramped and dirty, and the person renting them are mostly shady or seem like they’re on something. They’re all very nice at first, but I’ve moved in with “nice” people who quickly became inconsiderate monsters as soon as I gave them money. I don’t know if my judgment is good enough to decide who to live with, or if it’s even worth the risk of sharing a room with complete strangers. Also, I’m sensitive to noise and lights when I’m sleeping., more
